Lindsay's was one of Cleveland's top jazz locations. It was open from 1934 to 1952, in what was then known as "Cleveland's Second Downtown"- that's University Circle.
It was here that you could see Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and any number of the top touring performers in the US.
Headed into the 60s, there were a number of reasons the scene, including Lindsay's, began to die out. Higher performers fees, the folk music explosion, and civil / racial tensions all contributed to the decline.
A lot of these places were torn down and made way for what is now the Cleveland Clinic.
This matchbook was from Lindsay's heyday in the 1940s.
