In 1929, Frantisek Janecek decided to start the production of motorcycles. There was no time to develop an engine of his own, so he chose an engine called the Wanderer 500 cc. The name JAWA came from the first two letters of Janecek and Wanderer.
After the war (and German occupation) JAWA produced smaller engines, and the last 500cc came out in 1958. The best known model was the 350 Pérák and in the 1970s, the 350 Californian. After 1990 a significant loss of production occurred and the company stopped production altogether in 1993.
The ad used for this Tshirt is from the 1960s (notice there is no 500cc listed).
