Zenith was co-founded by Ralph Matthews and Karl Hassel in Chicago, Illinois in 1918. The name came from "ZN'th", a contraction of its founders' ham radio call sign, 9ZN.
Zenith basically owned the radio and television hardware market for decades, with thousands of employees by the 1960s. However, they began losing market share to Japanese companies in the 1970s.
Zenith filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1999, and was sold to Korean company LG. The Zenith headquarters building was demolished in 2018.
This is one of the best vintage logos I have ever seen, from a matchbook from the 1940s.
