When looking up info about a location, sometimes you see a clue, like this matchbook from Griffey's Restaurant, in Lodi.
It says "Formerly the Hob Nob" which means 1) it used to be the Hob Nob and 2) the Hob Nob was pretty popular since they want to remind people of it. The Hob Nob was basically a Lodi institution. After a little research:
- There was a Hoover's HobNob in Lodi, which has a Facebook page that was last used in 2014. Google says they are permanently closed.
- There is an article from 2018 that references a "Baxter’s (HobNob) Restaurant", but no mention of when that existed.
- There is an online listing for a "Robins Hob Nob Restaurant" at 8048 Buffham Rd in Lodi.
- There a few other restaurants using the name Hob Nob in Tacoma Washington, Atlanta, and Richmond Virginia.
Know what there isn't? Any record of a Griffey's in Lodi, Ohio, formerly known as the Hob Nob, or not. At least that I could find.
The matchbook has a 216 exchange, before 330 was a thing. That puts it before at least one of the Hob Nobs I found, not after.
Lodi folks: how many Hob Nobs were there? Is it like New York City, where there's a bunch of different Ray's Pizza places? Next time I'm in Lodi I'll ask; maybe there's a Hob Nob Outlet Store.
