WLIR was best known as an influential radio station that launched the careers of many music acts and disc jockeys from the 1970s through the 1990s. The station originally broadcast from studios at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, New York, with its transmitter located at the North Shore Towers in Floral Park, New York.
After many years of format changes, location changes, and sales to different owners, WLIR-FM began broadcasting Christian programming as part of the WLIX Hope radio network in 2011.
